CV & Bio
Marc Lepson (b.1970) is an interdisciplinary artist living and working in Brooklyn, NY.
His print and photography based installations are concerned with the places in between thought and experience; moments of dislocation within landscape and language.
Since the events of September 11 2001, Marc’s projects have focused on the political and emotional climate in New York City and the greater US. Working on his own and with activist groups, Marc has done print work for public performances such as Our Grief is Not A Cry For War (2001), and created a solo exhibition examining the contemporary climate of war and the intense scrutiny of immigrants with the US. The exhibition, Breathe: A meditation on claustrophobia, confinement and comfort (2002), was excerpted in Open House: Working in Brooklyn, at the Brooklyn Museum of Art in 2004. In 2005 he presented Winter, a large scale installation of digital prints at SPACES gallery in Cleveland OH. Winter brings together original and appropriated imagery and texts to create a seasonal document of public and personal events. In 2008 his installation Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow was exhibited at M.Y. Art Prospects NYC.
Marc earned his MFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has worked as Programs
Director and Master Printer at the Lower East Side Printshop, NYC. He currently teaches at
State University of New York (SUNY) Purchase College, and Parsons School of Design. His work
has been included in exhibitions in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Vienna Austria, Berlin
Germany and Torino Italy among others. In 2001 he was the recipient of a grant from the
Pollock - Krasner Foundation, and reproductions of his work have appeared in the September
and October 2004 issues of Art in America.
